Who Called Fire?
Although the revolution ended nearly 200 years ago, historians still look into parts of the battles that are crucial to what really could have happened in the years of the Revolutaionary War. There are peices of that time period that are still up for debate and even the best of historians can't be completeley sure of what happened on the night of March 5th. To this day, historians are still discussing who called fire during the boston massacre.
So why did Private Hugh Mongotmery fire first? Who told him? Nobody will ever know these answers for sure but w ehave clues to what might have actually happened. We have to consider that during this riot it was extrememly loud. If Captain Preston were to really call fire, none of the soldiers would be able to hear it. Therefore, no one actually told Mongomery to fire except for the crowd, teasing them.
