The Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris was a document that helped end the Revolutionary War and helped America earn independence. It helped prove that the new nation was an individual country and wasn’t ruled by Britain anymore. The document stated that the territory between the Allegheny Mountains and Mississippi River wasn’t owned by Britain or France. It also gave colonists access to the Grand Banks and traditional Canadian fisheries. Although it gave the colonists lots of privileges, it took a while for them to earn it. The Treaty of Paris was formed over a span of about 2 years. The colonists did not get what they wanted right away; they had to negotiate with King George and the parliament for their land and end of war.
To get the Treaty of Paris, the Sons of Liberty organized a group of five important men to negotiate. Tha plan did not go as well as it was supposed to because Thomas Jefferson was not back in time and Henry Laurens was captured and held in a tower in London. Instead, John Jay, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams were sent to convince King George to get what they deserved and an end to the Revolutionary War.
